What is new in version 18

(1) Real terrain and seabed geometry

This enables to

  • produce real radar images
  • generate exercise areas for any part of the world
  • automatically produce basic visuals
  • in view of coming tidal exercises, the approximated surface will provide correct depths for any time and place with actual coast lines
  • (2) Exercises created for previous versions can be converted to the new format (see picture above)

    (3) Standard version comes with the Isle of Wight area. New areas are ready which will be published shortly :

  • Philippines
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • (4) Binoculars

Click [Show visuals] on Window control menu to get focus on visuals window and press [B] on keyboard to switch binoculars on and off. Look around using left and right arrow keys.

    (5) Sounds

Sounds from your own or passing ships are generated in visuals, so allocate visuals for this exercise.

    (6) Radar picture

Radar picture is now generated from the real Earth terrain geometry and its performance is much better (a radar now takes no more than 1-2% of CPU time). But a radar has to spend some time to prepare data when changing range, so it may be noticeable.

    (7) New ship controls

New controls now include a number of groups, some of them completely new, like horn sounds, day signals, lights, sails, anchors, a gyro. Horns are heard if only visuals are are running. Lights, day signals and anchors are all built in visuals.

    (8) Lights and shapes

Lights and shapes set for a ship can be specified in ship property window before an exercise starts when creating a new ship or right-click over a ship. You should use this method when switching lights on for targets for an exercise (no more automatic lights in the dark for targets).

    (9) Specifying ship properties

Specifying ship properties during an exercise does not work now. Just out of exercise.

    (10) Deviation curve

Deviation curve is specified for any ship. Affects compass readings.

    (11) Magnetic variation

Magnetic variation associated with an exercise area has been moved from Options to Weather/Time menu.
